The Sales Executive – Bird Food is responsible for successfully developing, directing and executing account management activities within the United States for a significant Bird Food portfolio. The ideal candidate will have experience selling Bird Food into leading Retailers. The Sales Executive’s primary function will be to manage existing domestic retail accounts as well as grow the business. High energy, drive, creativity and outstanding communication skills will be necessary to develop the business and achieve financial goals and sales volume targets.

Job Description

Manage execution of everyday business in partnership with assigned accounts
• Develop and execute sales plan to drive profitable growth:
o Understand Customer Needs – Use knowledge of the customer to determine customer needs.
o Understand customer’s strategic priorities, organization, processes, systems, and business operations.
o Create opportunities and execute key corporate initiatives to drive growth.
o Deliver key sales objectives through deliberate and collaborative planning with both external and internal business partners to help deliver long term, sustainable growth.
o Establish strategic and collaborative partnerships within your accounts.
o Partner with key decision makers in assigned accounts to understand and deliver trend forward category recommendations.
o Convert recommendations to provide profitable tangible business expansion opportunities.
o Develop and implement annual key account plans.
o Impact and influence decisions through strong negotiation skills.
o Understand the capabilities of the organization and be able to provide clear, compelling and articulate explanation of our products and their value to prospective customers.
o Communication (written, oral, listening) – Use listening, oral, and writing abilities to clearly convey messages effectively in a variety of settings, both internally and with the customer.
o Adaptability & Flexibility – Can change plans in the moment and make tactical adjustments appropriately. Remains calm and confident even in stressful situations.
o Building Trusting Relationships – Develops and maintains solid connections with key owners and evaluators both inside the company and our customers. Uses these relationships to influence
key decision makers.
o Provide direction and support in deal negotiations, contract development, due diligence, and other business development or alliance development projects
o Establish and monitor self and department performance goals
o Perform other duties as created or assigned.
o Develop fact based selling strategies to drive private label and category growth
• Customer Strategic Alignment
o Strategic Thinking & Problem Solving – Understands what information is necessary to make a decision. Considers various points of data and points of view collected from others, and
considers both long term and short impact of actions on choices made. Manages questions, conflicts, and problems well, particularly with the customer.
o Research and learn all new emerging technologies, trends and competitor positioning
o Estimate demand for proposed projects based on market research, consumer trends, and customer needs
o Communicates the capabilities of the company to our customers.
Recognizes when opportunities present themselves and knows how to capitalize on them for both Company and the customer.
o Collaborate with all internal departments and external partners, brokers, and allies regarding development plans and business models
o Key Account Planning – Develops a holistic, objective-driven, shared business plan that helps grow the customer’s and the division’s business. Makes sure the plan is well communicated to
ensure successful implementation. Can ‘think on your feet’ to make the necessary adjustment to deliver the plan as necessary.
• Category Planning & Customer Execution
o Gains the knowledge of Company and competitor products.
o Execution – Executes plans with customer effectively and efficiently.
o Be able to prepare your own sales presentations and contribute to the development of needed sales and marketing materials
? Plan and prepare for potential setbacks to the plan and develop contingencies to overcome them.
? Results Focus & Accountability – Completes all necessary follow ups on commitments.  Meets or exceeds business objectives. Takes personal responsibility for results.

• Financial & Industry Knowledge
o Analytics – Can turn raw data into actionable conclusions. Demonstrates ability to identify trends and accurately understand the business through the most appropriate information or
data source
o Maintain a thorough understanding and be consistently aware of sales goals & objectives; be prepared to offer insight as to the increase/decrease of sales in the market area and be able to
offer recommendation on corrective efforts, if needed.
o Financial Acumen – understands and applies traditional financial measures common in the industry and customer. Identifies key factors when making recommendations. Can construct
strong cost/benefit analyses.
o Monitor customer sales performance against budget and financial expectations. Recommend, direct, and assist in the implementation of any required action response plan
o Industry Knowledge – Understands the dynamics and trends within industry that our customers and our company participate. Utilizes that knowledge to benefit our customer’s and company

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Agricultural Business, International Business, Supply Chain Management, or similar); MBA preferred, but not required.
Experience:
• Four plus years of Bird Food customer service / sales experience, preferably for a Bird Food company
• Strong Bird Food background in sales and customer management with Retail Accounts.
• Has a proven and successful track record of delivering results in sales and account management.
• Customer-centric Focus. Places the customer at the center of everything he/she does.
• Consumer-centric Thinker – Superior understanding of the industry and consumer insights.
• Strong leadership skills with enthusiasm, initiative and a passion for results.
• Strong Leadership Potential – critical that the candidate be able to assume additional responsibilities in future which may include assignment scope expansion and promotion within the organization.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• Highly Creative Thinker – does not accept Status Quo.
