Seeking a Senior Tool Design Engineer to design a broad range of tooling including progressive dies, molds, fine blank dies, and supporting components for a global market leader. This person will also design jigs and fixtures for production and test/experimental use; review specifications and consult with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and costs of tooling. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Development of clearly defined & documented project requirements and project schedule(s).
  • Resource estimates and plans; costing and cost targets; and budget monitoring.
  • Data collection & analysis; status and final reports; and analysis of alternatives when necessary.
  • Verification/tooling qualification; validation and design reviews; tooling design & documentation.
  • Production training, project schedule adjustment, coordination, closure, and critique.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement; failure analysis; identify corrective actions and maximize production up time.
  • Support for tooling prints, stamping/molding process, tooling including: progressive dies, molds, fine blank dies, and supporting components.
  • Risk analysis and recommendations on new technologies.
  • Reporting, documentation, technical presentations, guidance to Engineers and related departments, and coaching product design for manufacturing.

  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent discipline strongly preferred. 
  • 8+ years of experience in Design and background in Build, Blanking and using progressive tooling. Progressive die design and build experience required.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes
  • Conceptual understanding of the design of manufacturing equipment or other machine tools 
  • New tooling design development/major design upgrades for various types of tooling
  • Understanding of metal stamping, cold forming, prototype tooling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of CAD Solid modeling in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Pro/E, Inventor)
  • Familiar with Logopress and SAP
  • Proven ingenuity, craftsmanship, and judgment in applying technical knowledge to tooling design
  • Demonstrates commitment and actively works for continuous improvement in processes and technical knowledge and uses performance data for improvement in key areas of tool design
  • Current with technical advancements in the tooling area
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
