Will work for US based manufacturer of organic plant food and probiotics with responsibility for all new business development, account management and sales team leadership. Job will entail directly managing a staff of 5 (4 direct sales reps- CA,1 direct sales rep in AZ) and spend 50% of time in sales leadership (hire staff, define targets/sales opportunities, product training, ride alongs, create product programs and product messaging, coordinate trials) and 50% in new business development calling on promoting/selling new and existing plant nutritional products to potential customers ( growers and distributors) in the fruit/vegetable markets. Must build market position by creating demand by developing relationships with key players in the commercial fruit and vegetable markets.
Sales territory includes the Pacific and Mountain time zones but focuses in California and Arizona.
Person can live anywhere in California but highly prefer someone living in/around the Central Valley - San Luis Obispo/Salinas area.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Horticulture, Agriculture or related field, a strong technical knowledge of both field and indoor fruit/vegetable growing; fertilizer/plant nutrition knowledge and real world practices preferred;
Minimum of 10 years' managerial and/or sales experience in agriculture related sales, marketing or related area, previous agricultural consultation experience and positive track record/reputation is a plus;
Demonstrate ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities , sell at all levels of an organization and focus on results;
Strong market development skills and proven track record in prioritizing tasks under pressure:ability to anticipate the changing needs of the industry/customer:
Knowledgeable about small to large scale vegetable production;
Exceptional communication, organization and analytical skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of people and personalities;
Ability to travel a minimum of 50% of the time comprised of both day and overnight trips within the region/territory. Assume 1-1 1/2 day of office work each week.
